Ladies & Gentleman

Inspired by a regular feature in All Out Cricket magazine, every Friday we will be giving you the opportunity to look inside the mind of a Maldon CC member via our 20 Questions. This week is one of our most popular members....

Ladies & Gentleman...................... TOBY PUGH

1 Describe yourself in one word.

Laidback. (Apart from your health and your family nothing really matters).

2 What word or phrase do you most overuse?

I’ll just watch this shot. (according to my wife!!)

3 What is your idea of happiness?

Standing on the first tee at Augusta ready to start a round of golf or having a second toilet (the dream).

4 What is your biggest pet hate?

Umpires who lean to the right before not giving an LBW. Of course it is not out from there!!!!!!

5 Which living person do you most admire and why?

There is a lady at the kids football club who has dealt with personal tragedy using it to help save others and puts herself forward to organise and volunteer continuously. She is selfless and always friendly and welcoming. I really don’t know how she does it.

6 What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?

PJ’s and a dressing gown, so easy to put together when I have forgotten to sort out something for world book day again.

7 If you were an animal, what would you be?

A fish, I would swim to the third world and jump into the mouth of a starving child. Can’t take credit for that, a child in my class gave that answer years ago.

I would be a racehorse, I love competing.

8 What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?

Apart from the birth of my children and Julie on our wedding day it is probably Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 5 minute 147 truly beautiful.

9 Which 3 people would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Ronnie O Sullivan with a game of doubles afterwards.

10 Whose windows would you most like to smash

Helen Mirren - I don’t know why but I bloody can’t stand her.

11 Who would you like to play you in a film of your life?

Stephen Mangan comes across as a genuinely nice bloke.

12 What song would you have playing when walking out to bat?

I quite enjoyed Brian May’s BADGER BADGER BADGER on Rock up for Randall day, it made me laugh.

13 If you could be one other cricketer for a day, who would you be?

Phil Tufnell - he had the ball on a string.

14 What is the first record you bought?

Don’t really listen to music.

15 Who is your favourite comedian?

Jimmy Ainscough with his great one liners, bloody good author as well.

16 What one piece of advice would you give to an U9 colt?

Patience and being a team player is really important, there may be games where you don’t do a lot but be ready to take your chance when it comes, things can change quickly.

17 What is your favourite cricket tea item?

Baguette, it has to be baguette, please give us baguette.

18 Who is the biggest moaner you have ever played cricket with?

Craig Gozzett - permanently injured.

19 Where would you most like to watch a test match?

From the bowlers end, just look at this O’Keefe (joke). Cooky, not picking me to fill the gap left by Swann - must be your biggest regret!!

20 What is your greatest ever performance on a cricket pitch?

Amos and Goldsmith twice

Next Week ..............Jake Collins
